Spain Offers €1.6 Million Grant to Study Gambling-Related Harm
28.06.2024
The Spanish Department of Consumer Affairs has issued a request for research institutions to apply for a €1.6 million (GBP 1.4 million/USD 1.8 million) grant to investigate the effects of gambling-related damage.
The notice, published in the Spanish Official Gazette, invites public universities, university institutes and associated centers, and public health organizations linked to the National Health System to submit proposals.
Applicants will be required to present project plans for assessment. Non-profit organizations are also eligible to apply, but they must clarify their goal of conducting research work.
The funding will be used to study early detection of gambling-related harmful behaviors, as well as the negative consequences associated with problematic gambling and its impact on individuals, families, and social standing. The research should also explore ways to minimize the stigma surrounding gambling-related harm and analyze the gender-specific effects of such harm.
Organizations associated with lottery, poker, gambling, and betting are also encouraged to participate.
The application deadline is May 19th. Interested applicants must submit their projects through the Spanish gambling regulatory body, the General Directorate for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ).
