France Tackles Euro 2024 Gambling Concerns with Hard-Hitting Campaign
14.06.2024
With the 2024 UEFA European Championship looming, France is preparing for a surge in sports wagering, a pattern that has authorities worried about the possibility of gambling dependence. Picture this: Envision a stadium filled with French football enthusiasts, over half the nation captivated by the games. Now envision this – more than a third of those supporters placing wagers, aiming to add an extra level of thrill (and perhaps some profits!) to the competition.
Football reigns supreme when it comes to betting in France. It dominates digital platforms, generating billions of euros yearly. Major competitions like the Euros and the World Cup consistently witness a massive increase in betting action, and this year is predicted to be no exception, particularly if the French squad excels.
To address the negative aspects of this betting craze, the French National Gaming Authority (ANJ) has initiated a potent new initiative. They’re not simply attaching a cautionary message to advertisements and considering it done. Rather, they’re employing stark imagery and authentic accounts of addiction to emphasize the message that betting can be a dangerous path. The initiative guides individuals to resources such as the Evalujeu website, where they can evaluate their own behaviors and seek assistance if necessary.
This marketing blueprint encompasses online visual advertisements, social media promotions on Snapchat, digital sound spots, advertisements within the So Foot athletics periodical, and brief clips showcasing athlete testimonials.
Gaming providers have grown more cognizant of their duty to advocate for responsible gaming and have modified their approaches since the spike in wagering during the 2021 European Championship, states Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, director of France’s gaming authority (ANJ).
“This favorable trend must be sustained throughout the Euros, the Olympic Games – the ANJ will be highly observant of the manner in which each occasion is handled.”
