Colorado Takes Action Against Gambling Addiction with Inaugural Responsible Gaming Fund Grants
14.06.2024
The Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission has given the go-ahead for the initial distribution of grants from its Responsible Gaming Fund, marking a significant stride in addressing gambling addiction within the state. Acknowledging the potential drawbacks of even a thriving gaming sector, the Commission has pledged its support to a variety of programs. These encompass expanding the training of certified gambling counselors to offer essential assistance to individuals and their families, initiating public education campaigns, and even establishing a specialized problem gambling facility in Colorado. This first allocation of more than $1.5 million will be divided among prominent organizations such as the Kindbridge Research Institute and the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, highlighting a commitment to research and solutions grounded in evidence. This is merely the first step, as the Commission underscores its continued dedication to mitigating the negative consequences linked to problem gambling.
The Colorado Coalition for Responsible Gaming received three research grants to study problem gambling. Funded for one year, the grants were awarded by the Colorado Division of Gaming and the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission. A Coalition representative, Peggy Brown, shared her appreciation for the financial support. “Receiving the Responsible Gaming grant from the Division of Gaming and the Colorado Gaming Commission is an honor,” she remarked. Brown continued, “We anticipate their ongoing engagement and assistance during the grant cycle.”
