Succeeding with Intention: BCLC’s 2030 ESG Report
13.06.2024
The British Columbia Gaming Commission (BCLC) recently unveiled its yearly review, illuminating the progress made toward its 2030 environmental, societal, and governance objectives. The document, aptly named “Succeeding with Intention,” emphasizes how BCLC is integrating ethical practices into its operational framework. It transcends mere revenue generation; it’s about fostering a beneficial influence on society.
Noteworthy highlights? BCLC is amplifying its dedication to responsible gambling, taking substantial measures toward reconciliation with First Nations communities, and advocating for diversity and inclusivity. They are also sharply focused on ecological sustainability, with a defined strategy to minimize their environmental impact.
The review demonstrates BCLC’s commitment to generating value for all stakeholders – from participants to neighborhoods – while maintaining a vigilant focus on the environment. As Jim Goodinson, BCLC’s Sustainability & Innovation Lead, articulated, it’s about “developing multiple avenues to generate value for our patrons and our communities while having a net positive effect on the Earth.”
In pursuit of a more diverse and welcoming work environment, BCLC recently initiated several internal programs. One illustration is the “Inclusive Holiday Plan” unveiled during BC Multiculturalism Week. This plan permits staff to exchange up to six legal holidays for alternative dates that hold individual, cultural, or spiritual meaning for them.
Furthermore, BCLC teamed up with Instant Win Gaming (IWG) to debut the Set for Life game on their PlayNow.com site. This joint effort seeks to connect retail and digital gaming, establishing a smooth experience for players throughout British Columbia and Manitoba.
