Australian Media Watchdog Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling Websites
12.06.2024
The Australian media watchdog, known as ACMA, is taking action against unlawful international gambling platforms. They have directed internet providers to restrict connections to numerous websites functioning in breach of the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. Platforms such as Casino Moons, Winnerama, Extra Vegas, and Win Paradise are among those targeted by the ACMA.
This represents the most recent step by the ACMA, which has been actively safeguarding Australians from the risks of illicit gambling since 2017. More than 170 unauthorized services have withdrawn from the Australian market during this period, and internet providers have blocked access to 568 illegal gambling and promotional websites since 2019.
The ACMA advises Australians to exercise prudence when considering the use of unauthorized gambling platforms and suggests verifying the ACMA registry to ascertain if a platform possesses the necessary licensing. They recently delivered a formal caution to Proxous Advanced Solutions, a provider associated with these illicit activities.
The Australian media regulator, ACMA, has formally cautioned Proxous, a tech firm, for purportedly ignoring the actions of 13 dubious internet casinos that employed its live dealer gaming platform to engage Australian players.
This instance marks the first occasion where the ACMA has taken action against a business for essentially supporting and facilitating illicit gambling activities by supplying the software that enables their operation.
