Australian Regulator Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling Websites
11.06.2024
The Australian media regulator, known as the ACMA, is taking strong action against unlawful international gambling websites. They have instructed internet service providers to restrict connections to these platforms, which are functioning in breach of Australian regulations.
Numerous websites, including questionable entities such as Casino Moons, Winnerama, and Extra Vegas, are among those targeted by the ACMA. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to safeguard Australians from the hazards associated with unregulated internet gambling. Since 2017, over 170 illicit gambling platforms have ceased their operations in Australia as a result of the ACMA’s endeavors. Hundreds more have been rendered inaccessible by internet providers at the ACMA’s behest.
Furthermore, the ACMA is cautioning Australians about the perils of engaging with these unauthorized websites and advocating for their patronage of licensed operators. Recently, they issued a formal cautionary notice to Proxous Advanced Solutions, an organization that was aiding these dubious websites in their operations.
The Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) has formally cautioned Proxous, a software developer for internet casinos. The ACMA claims that Proxous intentionally provided its Realtime Gaming (RTG) software to 13 online casinos that were illicitly offering services to Australians.
This is a precedent-setting case, marking the first instance where the ACMA has charged a company with involvement in unlawful gambling activities specifically “by providing software utilized in conjunction with illegal gambling.”
